What Happens to Gifts?

The UW Foundation receives gifts on behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

  • We invest them.
  • We distribute gifts and investment income to the University.
  • We honor donors’ wishes and nurture relationships.

The total amount of a gift given to the University is deposited into an account for the designated University unit. Gifts to establish long term endowment accounts are invested in a variety of financial products to ensure a continuing stream of income for campus. Gifts to establish current, spendable accounts are deposited and are available in their entirety for designated University people, programs and projects.

UW-Madison policy indicates that gifts to the campus should be made payable to the UW Foundation. They may be designated for any school, college, unit, activity or program at the University.
