Alumni Relations & Engagement
The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s more than 400,000 graduates are our best ambassadors, supporters and mentors.
Alumni relations and outreach is an important part of UW-Madison’s advancement activities and serves to grow positive connections between its graduates and the university. By creating opportunities for alumni to engage with their alma mater, we help strengthen their relationship with the university and cultivate a lifetime of support that can promote the welfare of and advance the objectives of UW-Madison.
Engage and Enrich
Thousands of UW-Madison alumni engage with each other and the university throughout the year through major events such as UW Homecoming, Founders’ Day season, 50-year class reunions and Grandparents University®, as well as opportunities to network and connect through alumni chapters and affiliate groups, enrichment and learning programs, career resources, athletic celebrations and international travel.
Inform and Celebrate
Traditional communication channels, such as the award-winning On Wisconsin magazine and WAA’s members-only magazine, Badger Insider, as well as new technologies like email and social media, inform alumni what’s happening at UW-Madison. Long-standing awards programs celebrate outstanding UW graduates, while giving societies recognize alumni whose generous support maintains the university’s excellence.
Support and Stewardship
Alumni are encouraged to give back to their alma mater in a variety of ways. Financial gifts sustain the university’s core mission and support faculty retention and recruitment, student financial assistance and life-changing research. Alumni also serve as advocates for the university’s top priorities, and volunteer to advance admissions efforts, raise money for student scholarships and make a difference with alumni chapters around the world.
Founded in 1861 to promote the welfare of the University of Wisconsin and serve the interests of its alumni, the Wisconsin Alumni Association carries out this mission today through marketing, communications, services, and programs that link alumni back to the university, the university with alumni, and alumni with each other.
